We would like to introduce you to a sauna that has opened in Munakata City, where you can enjoy an extraordinary experience.

A spectacular view of the World Heritage Site, Okinoshima! "SAUNA MURO Munakata Oshima"

On August 1, 2025, the wood-fired meditation sauna "SAUNA MURO Munakata Oshima" opened at "VILLA MINAWA," a luxury villa in Oshima, Munakata City, Fukuoka Prefecture, which only accepts one group per day.

Located at the foot of the lighthouse closest to the World Heritage Site, Okinoshima, with a panoramic view of the Genkai Sea, you can enjoy the ultimate relaxation experience that stimulates the depths of your five senses.

The name "SAUNA MURO" comes from the stone chamber baths that were used during the Nara period, approximately 1,300 years ago. The facility has been produced to recreate the space as close to the original as possible while still allowing you to enjoy the maximum benefits of a sauna.

Currently, the facility is available only to guests staying at VILLA MINAWA, and reservations are required. The facility can accommodate a maximum of 10 people (one group at a time), and swimwear is required. Day use will also be available soon, for 66,000 yen.

The special features of "SAUNA MURO Munakata Oshima"

The sauna room, with minimal lighting, feels like being in a cave. By blocking out everyday visual information, the room is designed to help you calm your mind and open your physical senses.

The walls are hand-finished with plaster mixed with Oshima soil, creating a cave-like, enveloping feeling and the texture of a breathing wall.

We have also introduced the "LEGEND" model, a representative model from sauna heater manufacturer "Harvia," and a large wood stove that can warm up to 10 people from the inside out.

Loyly

In collaboration with the "Kamisakaya Distillery," we are currently developing a special aroma water that inherits the culture of sacred sake (omiki). This original blend specially extracts the aroma of ginjo sake and adds the scent of citrus fruits such as the Oshima specialty, Amanatsu, to it, creating a loyly experience that utilizes the island's culture and ingredients. (Until this is completed, we plan to provide aroma water with the scent of cypress.)

Hot bath

You can see the ocean from the bath, making it perfect for those who want to enjoy time in an elegant atmosphere after the sauna.

The eco-friendly bath amenities are apparently popular with guests, and a morning bath while enjoying the morning sun is also wonderful.

Cold bath

The cold bath is made with an earthbag structure using soil from Oshima, and has the softness and insulating properties that only natural materials can provide. It not only cools you down, but also gives you a sense of security and quiet embrace, as if you are sinking into the ground. It uses 100% Oshima well water. The view is also amazing!

Outdoor bathing

Rocking chairs and infinity chairs are also available, perfect for outdoor bathing. The Genkai Sea stretches out before you, and beyond that you can see the World Heritage Site of Okinoshima. Outdoor bathing surrounded by the sounds of the wind and waves is an immersive experience that will make you lose track of time.

The sunset you can see from the terrace is so beautiful you'll want to take photos. After the sun goes down, the fishing boats line the sea, emitting their lights, creating a fantastic nighttime scene. It's sure to be an unforgettable sight.

bonfire area

A bonfire area where you can warm up your body and enjoy BBQ (sauna food) using local ingredients.

At the BBQ, you can enjoy beef, pork, chicken, squid, clams, dried fish, vegetables, etc. *Prices vary depending on the day's stock.
