Dazaifu's Homangu Kamado Shrine is known nationwide as a power spot for matchmaking, and is also known as a sacred place for fans of the manga "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba."
This year, the annual Tanabata Festival will be held at Homangu Kamado Shrine, centered around Thursday, August 7, 2025, which corresponds to Tanabata according to the lunar calendar.

This year, the special festival will take place for seven days, from Friday, August 1st to Thursday, August 7th, 2025. It is titled "Kamado Shrine Tanabata Festival - Light of Prayer."
After sunset, "send your wishes to heaven" with projection mapping and bamboo lanterns
During this period, the shrine grounds will be transformed into a fantastical atmosphere after sunset with projection mapping and bamboo lanterns. The normally beautiful approach to Kamado Shrine will be transformed into a fantastical space with bamboo decorated with Tanabata ornaments and colorful lights, making wishes shine like the stars in the night sky.

The stone steps leading to the main shrine sparkle like a fountain of stars. The arches crossing overhead are a "mesh that invites wishes to the heavens." Soft pillars of light rise up along your footsteps.

~Milky Way~
The floor of the S-shaped corridor in the temple grounds will be decorated with a projection mapping that resembles the Milky Way. The surrounding trees will also be lit up to look like they are filled with real fireflies, creating a beautiful combination with the starry sky.

Visitors cross this Milky Way to the main shrine to make their wishes.
Bamboo lanterns and projection mapping inside the main hall and grounds
There is also a projection mapping that resembles the Milky Way on the stone pavement leading to the main shrine. Bamboo lanterns are installed on both sides and wrapped around them.

A special experience awaits at the main shrine. When worshippers write their wishes on strips of paper and hold them up on a special stand, the bamboo lanterns light up and the strips of paper travel up the shrine to the heavens... this is a spectacular projection mapping effect.
There is also a food and drink corner in the square on the right side after going up the stairs from the parking lot. Don't forget to check it out!
