Ashiya Fireworks Festival 2025 [Ashiya Town, Onga District]

The Ashiya Fireworks Festival, which has been held since the Taisho era, is one of the three oldest and most successful events in the prefecture. Approximately 70,000 people visit every year to see 5,000 fireworks.

The sight of fireworks being launched from a barge floating on the Onga River, which flows into the Hibiki Nada Sea, is truly spectacular!

Among the highlights are the "Underwater Fireworks" and the fireworks reflected on the river's surface. The dynamic "Niagara Falls" fireworks display, which stretches 250m across both sides of the Onga River, is also spectacular.

Buzen City Minato Festival [Buzen City]

The fireworks display at the Buzen City Minato Festival is an annual summer event in Buzen City. 3,000 fireworks are launched, vividly lighting up the Buzen Sea and the night sky. In 2025, the launch site will be Ushima Port, which will be different from previous years.

In addition to the fireworks display, the Buzen City Minato Festival will feature a brave parade in the morning with about 50 fishing boats waving fishing flags. This is a sea festival to express gratitude for the blessings of the sea and to pray for safe fishing and a good catch.

Nogata Summer Festival 2025 [Nogata City]

The Nogata Summer Festival is a festival that attracts many visitors every year to see the fireworks display and the Oi Yamakasa, the finale of the Nogata Yamakasa.

The highlight of the fireworks display is the spectacular Niagara Falls! The fireworks that are launched right before your eyes are a sight to behold.

On the day, the annual summer event "Matsuri Kuraji" will be held from 14:00 to 19:00, and the "Nogata Oi Yamakasa" will be held from 19:00 to 19:45. There will also be stalls set up.

Chikugo River Fireworks Festival [Kurume City]

The Chikugo River Fireworks Festival is one of the largest in western Japan, with 15,000 fireworks! The Chikugo River Fireworks Festival is held on the banks of the Chikugo River. It is said to have begun in 1650 as a dedication fireworks display to mark the completion of Suitengu Shrine, and has a history of over 370 years. This year, an area with outdoor stalls has been set up, making it even more exciting.

There will be two launch locations. There are six viewing locations (planned): Kyomachi, Sasayama, Komorino, Nagatoishi, Miyaki, and Tosu. The Sasayama location has seating for the disabled (no registration required), as well as wheelchair-accessible temporary toilets.

Another attraction is that the venue and the launch site are located close to each other, so you can look up at the spectacular fireworks. The fireworks reflected on the river are also very beautiful.

Soeda Fireworks Festival [Soeda Town, Tagawa District]

The Soeda Fireworks Festival sees approximately 3,000 fireworks light up the midsummer night sky.

The finale will be a musical collaboration!

The 38th Kanmon Strait Fireworks Festival [Moji Venue: Moji Ward, Kitakyushu City]

The Kanmon Strait Fireworks Festival, held every year on August 13th, is the largest fireworks festival in western Japan, held jointly by Moji Ward, Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, separated by the Kanmon Straits. It is the only fireworks festival in Japan that crosses the sea and prefectural borders.

Starting in 2024, the number of fireworks on the Shimonoseki side will increase by another 3,000, for a total of 18,000 fireworks in 2025 (approximately 10,500 on the Shimonoseki side and 7,500 on the Moji side).

The sight of the fireworks being launched from both sides of the illuminated Kanmon Straits is truly fantastical!

The Mojiko site is about a 10-minute walk from JR Mojiko Station (it gets crowded around 7:00 p.m., so we recommend arriving early). There are no free viewing areas around Mojiko Station, so you will need a sponsored ticket to view the event at the site (available at Seven Tickets).

You can also view it from the top of the mountains on both sides of the river.

Nakagawa Citizens' Festival [Nakagawa City]

The Nakagawa Citizens' Festival will be held again for the first time in five years in 2024. Fireworks will be launched simultaneously from two locations: the rice fields south of "Mirika Roden" and "Nakagawa Minami Junior High School," and a total of 2,000 shots will be launched, creating a spectacular sight.

From around 3:00 p.m., there will be singing and performances on the main stage of the festival venue. The usual "iNiSiE" and Nakagawa Hitomi are also scheduled to appear.

There will also be about 30 food trucks gathering, so you're sure to be able to fill your stomach.

Amagi River Fireworks Festival Nagarekanjohoyokai (Flowing Candlelight Ceremony) [Asakura City]

The Amagigawa Fireworks Festival is held on the same day as the Ryukanjo Ceremony, which is a prayer for the repose of ancestors and the safety of the family.

Approximately 4,000 fireworks of various sizes are launched near Amagi Bridge over the Oishiwara River. Some fireworks are set off across the river, about 200 meters wide, illuminating the night sky and the river surface with brilliant colors.
