Spend a summer night with a monster!? A special room at Japan's only "nationally designated scenic spot where you can stay overnight" (Yanagawa)

Spending a night with a monster at an inn that is a nationally designated scenic spot run by the descendants of a feudal lord...it may be scary, but doesn't it pique your interest?

Yokai-themed guest rooms will be available for a limited time at the Yanagawa Domain Lord Tachibana Residence Ohana.

This summer, the popular Yokai event "Strange Night Parade" will be held at "Yanagawa feudal lord Tachibana residence Onohana" (Yanagawa city)

The popular annual art event "Kikai Yakou" is held in collaboration with "Yanagawa Tachibana Residence Onohana" in Yanagawa City and "Ito Gonjiro Shoten", a lantern shop in Yame City with a history of over 200 years.

In 2025, the festival will be held for a total of six days, from August 15th (Fri) to 17th (Sun) and 22nd (Fri) to 24th (Sun), at the Yanagawa Domain Lord Tachibana Residence, Ohana.

As part of a related project, we will be introducing a new "Yokai Room" room plan where you can spend a special night with a yokai lantern, as well as a "Yokai Boat" river cruise.

A special night spent in a room eerily lit by yokai lanterns! "Yokai Room" plan

The restaurant and inn "Yanagawa Feudal Lord Tachibana Residence Onohana," which is still run by descendants of the Tachibana family who were once the feudal lords of Yanagawa, has a 400-year history and is the only "nationally designated place of scenic beauty where you can stay overnight" in Japan.

The "Yokai Room" is open for a limited time and only one room is available per day. It is decorated with special touches, such as eerily lit yokai lanterns of all sizes, hanging scrolls depicting yokai, and mysterious flowers arranged in the tokonoma alcove.

All of the lanterns from Ito Gonjiro Shoten are made by hand, making them a highly artistic piece of art, and the monsters inside the lanterns look as if they could come to life at any moment!

In addition, the Yokai Room is lined with books on the theme of "Japanese Yokai." You can enjoy tales of yokai selected by the bookstore "Bunsetsu Fukuoka Tenjin" in the quiet and relaxed atmosphere of your room.

Guests will be given a free "Shibuya fan," a "useful craft item" that will last for 100 years. It features a scene from a yokai picture scroll that has been passed down through the Tachibana family.

Cool down with ghost stories from the boatman! Enjoy the "Yokai Boat" in the water town

There will also be a "Yokai Boat" where you can go down the river on an eerie boat decorated with yokai lanterns while listening to the boatman tell ghost stories.

Except for certain periods, the boat can be rented exclusively. Enjoy a special time with a "Yokai Drink" in hand.

Price: Charter fee: 30,000 yen per boat
Time: 19:30-20:10 (40 minutes)
Reservation: Select "Options" when booking on the official website (options can also be reserved with the regular plan)

*In case of rain, a boat yokai lantern and a yokai book will be placed in the guest room, and you can enjoy a yokai dessert. (You will also receive yokai goods as a gift.)
*During the strange night tour (August 15th (Fri) to 17th (Sun), 22nd (Fri) to 24th (Sun), 2025), only shared boats are available. Price per person: 4,500 yen (maximum number of passengers: 10)
*Yokai drinks are not included during the shared boat tour period.

"Strange Night Train" is an art event themed around monsters!

The annually popular art event "Kikai Yakou" has a theme of monsters. Inspired by the monster lanterns that have been made so far and the monster picture scrolls handed down in the Tachibana family, lanterns made for this exhibition and unpublished works will be exhibited in the space of "Yanagawa feudal lord Tachibana's residence Ohana."
