A winter tradition "Uminaka Candle Night 2024" will be held at Umi-no-Nakamichi Seaside Park (Higashi-ku, Fukuoka City)
"Uminaka Candle Night 2024" will be held at Umi-no-Nakamichi Seaside Park on December 14th (Sat), 15th (Sun), 21st (Sat), 22nd (Sun), and 25th (Wed), 2024. *Cancelled in case of bad weather
This "Uminaka winter tradition" will be held for five days this year, one day longer than last year's four days!
The event will be held at the Outdoor Theater, Wonder World, West Exit to Canal from 17:30 to 20:45 (last entry at 20:15).
Night admission (after 5:30 p.m.) costs 290 yen for adults, 210 yen for those 65 and over, and free for junior high school students and younger.
The largest in Western Japan! "Candle Art" - a "ground drawing of light" made with 10,000 candles
The main attraction of Uminaka Candle Night is the candle art displayed in the outdoor theater!
In fact, this was created with the help of local volunteers by lining up 10,000 candles one by one. Its size is an astounding 100 meters in length and width!
This is what it looks like up close.
You can see the entire candle art on a video taken from above that is shown on monitors at the venue.
Selected from 176 submissions! This is the candle art design for 2024!
The candle art designs are selected each year from entries submitted by the public.
This year, out of 176 submissions, the winning design was "Capybara Babies' Christmas" by Haruka Kumano, a third-grader from Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City! A "light ground drawing" based on this work will be drawn using 10,000 candles.
Lots of illuminations to see
The illuminations held in various places within the park are also a must-see.
Canal Light Up
The 100-meter-long "Canal" that stretches straight from the west exit, as well as the fountain and flower clock that connect to it, are all fantastically lit up.
The fountain is designed to look like a candle.
Wonder World
In "Wonder World," palm trees will be lit up, and there will also be animal illuminations and a rainbow-colored bubble machine.
Hikari Amusement Park
Wonder World will also host the Light Amusement Park, where you can enjoy limited-time illuminated rides such as go-karts and a glowing steam locomotive.
Go-karts cost 600 yen per person for one seater and 1,000 yen for two seater, the steam locomotive costs 350 yen per person (photo below), the battery cars/F1 battery cars cost 200 yen each, and the maze costs 350 yen per ride.
