Children can enter alone! Indoor facility opens with five areas for plenty of fun (Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City)
Hello! I'm Hakata Aya, a writer who loves hot information about Fukuoka.
Have you ever had trouble shopping with your child because they were fussy? Shopping with your kids is fun, but sometimes you just want to take it easy and have fun...Here are some recommended spots for moms and dads like you!
For the purposes of this article, I visited the playground with my second-grade elementary school child, but this is a fascinating indoor playground that can be visited by children aged three and above on their own.
"Skidz Garden Canal City Hakata" (Sumiyoshi, Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City), an indoor playground where only children can enter
Skidz Garden Canal City Hakata opened on April 25, 2024, inside the shopping facility Canal City Hakata in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City.
It is located on the basement floor of the Business Center Building.
This facility is a playground for children from 0 to 2nd grade, but children aged 3 and above can enter alone! "Play leaders" who are qualified as nursery teachers or kindergarten teachers and have company certification will support your children as they play, so you can leave them there with peace of mind♪
Since it can be used for just 30 minutes, it seems like a good way to practice spending a little time away from the mother and child before entering kindergarten. Spending time away from parents should be a special experience for children. It will surely increase their sense of independence and help them grow.
Business hours are 10:00-21:00. The fee is 800 yen for children for the first 30 minutes, free for adults on weekdays and 500 yen on weekends and holidays, and 300 yen for children for every 15 minutes of extension. There is no extension fee for adults. Children under 1 year old are free (Mother and Child Health Handbook etc. must be checked at the time of admission).
For example, if you bring your newborn child to play on a weekday, both parents and children can use the facility completely free of charge. It could also be used as a parenting community.
A playground divided into five areas
The play areas at Skidz Garden Canal City Hakata are broadly divided into five areas: the ball pool, AmiAmi Jungle, Toy Corner, Pretend Town, and Event Space.
The "ball pool" is designed to be deep. You can have fun by diving in and throwing balls. There is also a mechanism that makes balls pop out from the "ball pool"!
There is a "Net Ami Jungle" on top of the ball pool! You can jump, bounce, and climb on the net to play. Since you have to balance on unstable feet, it seems like you can develop your sense of balance while playing. Parents can join in too.
The "Toy Corner" has a wide selection of educational toys carefully selected from all over the world!
In the "Toy Master" section, you can sit in a chair and learn about things like "programming" and suggestions for "the best ways to play with toys that will help your child develop" using toys such as "Hexacus" and "Polydron."
You will receive a stamp for each challenge you complete, and once you collect enough stamps you will receive a "Toy Master Certificate"! You'll want to go back and complete it again and again!
In "Narikiri Town," you can enjoy authentic "pretend play" such as running a flower shop, a soft serve ice cream shop, a ramen shop, and more.
At the ramen shop, the children were doing some serious work, like draining the noodles! They played the roles of shopkeepers and customers, and not only did they play with their parents and play leaders, but it was also heartwarming to see the children playing with each other, who they had made friends with on the spot.
The items in the shop, as well as the money, were of high quality, allowing the children to enjoy pretend play at a higher level than at home.
In the "Event Space," "Craft Workshops" and "Seasonal Events" are held. With a variety of events on offer, you're sure to have a new experience whenever you visit.
The event on this day was a game where you put balls from a ball pool on top of a cup and carry them as ice cream. At first, the children were busy carrying just one at a time, but once they got used to it, they had fun carrying many at once and competing for the most!
This facility is only available to second graders, so my son was at the very top of the restrictions. I wondered how much fun he would have, but he excitedly told me, "I want to go as many times as I can while I'm in second grade!"
You can play together, or you can leave your children (ages 3 and over) there and spend your time however you like. Please come and visit us. (Text by Hakata Aya.)
