A fantastical experience report of the new and improved "TeamLab Forest" (Jigyohama, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka)

Hello! I'm Hakata Aya, a writer who loves hot information about Fukuoka.

This time we will be introducing TeamLab Forest Fukuoka - SBI Securities, a much talked about facility that offers a fantastical experience.

I heard that new artworks would be added in February 2024 for the first time since the museum opened in 2020, so I went to check it out with my elementary school-aged child.

Immerse yourself in a fantastical world! Permanent exhibition "TeamLab Forest Fukuoka - SBI Securities" (Jigyohama, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City)

"TeamLab Forest Fukuoka - SBI Securities" is a permanent exhibition located on the 5th floor of "BOSS E・ZO FUKUOKA," a complex entertainment zone next to "Fukuoka PayPay Dome." (2,400 yen for those 16 and over, 1,000 yen for those 4 to 15, free for those 3 and under. *Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Up to three children may enter per parent/guardian. Parents must also purchase a ticket.)

This new museum by the art collective TeamLab is made up of the "Catch and Collect Forest" and the "Athletic Forest."

We recommend wearing sneakers as there are some areas where the ground is unstable. Please be aware that there are some exhibits that you will not be able to experience if you wear high heels or sandals.

Just past the entrance is the "Catch and Collect Forest."

Here, you can use a smartphone app to find and capture animals and create your own collection guide. *A dedicated app must be downloaded (you will be encouraged to download it before entering).

The scenery changes with the seasons, so it's fun no matter how many times you visit!

Starting March 1, 2024, the entire venue will be transformed into a spring scene with cherry blossoms in full bloom. In "Catch and Collect Forest," the forest where the animals live will also be transformed into a spring scene with cherry blossoms in full bloom.

As you go further, you will come to the "Athletics Forest" area. The concept is to "perceive the world with your body and think three-dimensionally." *High-heeled shoes, sandals, etc. cannot be worn during this experience.

The photo shows the "High-Speed Spinning Bouncing Ball at the Caterpillar House." The participants had to move across the bouncy "high-speed spinning bouncing ball," which glowed in various colors, to the other side, but it was hard to keep their balance...! The children were more dexterous than them, hopping along with ease.

New work "Graffiti Nature in the Beating Valley"

In the new work "Beating Valley Graffiti Nature" that has been added to the "Forest of Athletics" area, the illustrations that visitors have drawn are projected as "part of the work."

First, go to the drawing booth at the back and choose your favorite illustration from among the illustrations of animals (butterflies, frogs, salamanders, snakes, etc.) and plants.

Next, you will use crayons to color the illustration however you like.

In addition to coloring, you can also write text inside to make it more original. There is no limit to the number of sheets, so feel free to create as many pieces as you like!

Once the illustration is complete, it is handed over to the staff.

After a short wait, the creatures we had drawn were scanned and jumped into the world of "Beating Valley Graffiti Nature"♪ They moved across a three-dimensional landscape with varying elevations, so they looked as if they were really alive. It was truly fascinating.

Salamanders eat snakes, snakes eat lizards...through this cycle of eating and being eaten by other creatures, an ecosystem is eventually created.

At times, seasonal flowers begin to bloom from the creatures, in response to another work, "Animals Living with Flowers II - A Whole Year per Year." When people step on the flowers, they fall off.

I felt the beauty and transience of life. I realized that the appeal of teamLab is not just what you can see and feel, but also what you can learn from it.

By the way, from March 1st in the "Graffiti Nature of the Beating Valley" space, cherry blossoms will bloom from the creatures that everyone draws!

You can take your creation home with you! Drawing Factory

At the newly opened "Drawing Factory," visitors can take home products based on the illustrations they have drawn at "Graffiti Nature of the Beating Valley."

There are four types: "Can badges" (500 yen), "T-shirts" (3,800 yen for adults, 2,900 yen for children), "tote bags" (3,800 yen), and "hand towels" (1,500 yen).

This time, I created a "T-shirt (for children)" using an illustration drawn by my child, and a "tote bag" using an illustration I drew!

The AI will design based on the original illustration, so any image can be stylish and cool. You can add up to two illustrations to one product.

I thought it would be a good idea to keep a record of my child's work as a record of their growth.

With the addition of new artworks, TeamLab Forest Fukuoka - SBI Securities has become even more appealing, so why not create some wonderful memories at the facility? (Text by Aya Hakata.)
