HASSENBA HITOYOSHI KUMAGAWA (Kuma River Boat Ride Departure Point)

The Kuma River Rafting Pier, which sustained devastating damage in the July 2020 heavy rains, has been revitalized as the complex tourist facility "HASSENBA HITOYOSHI KUMAGAWA" in 2021.

As before, the facility will continue to accept reservations for "Kuma River Rafting" and "Kuma River Rafting" trips, but will also house the Kyushu Pancake Cafe and the HITO × KUMA STORE, which sells local products from the southern part of Kumamoto Prefecture, and will also be accepting reservations for the "Hitoyoshi Discovery Cycling Tour," which involves a tour around Hitoyoshi city on an e-bike.

The highlight is the "Kuma River Cruise," where you board a Japanese-style boat and enjoy the seasonal scenery from the river with the guidance of an experienced boatman.

There are two types of boat rides: the 30-minute "Umehana no Watashi" pleasure boat ride, which gives you a close-up look at the stone walls of the Hitoyoshi Castle ruins (2,000 yen for junior high school students and above, 1,000 yen for elementary school students, 500 yen for 3 years old and above *One infant under 3 years old can ride free per adult), and the "Seiryu Course" which takes you down the 4.5km course from HASSENBA (Hitoyoshi departure dock) to Onsencho arrival dock in about 50 minutes (3,000 yen for junior high school students and above, 1,600 yen for elementary school students, 1,000 yen for 3 years old and above *One infant under 3 years old can ride free per adult *Free transfers are included between Onsencho arrival dock and Hitoyoshi departure dock).

The Seiryu Course had been subject to course changes and suspension following the heavy rains of July 2020, but normal course operations resumed on April 6, 2024.

I tried it myself, and the view of Hitoyoshi from the Kuma River was so beautiful I was moved.
