Hello. I'm Mai Ito, an FBS announcer.
For the 45th installment of my curry diary, I'm introducing a long-established Osaka curry restaurant whose curry is now available in Fukuoka—a truly addictive curry that will leave you wanting more after just one bite.
We will be introducing in detail the restaurants featured in the "Saturday Curry Club" of "Mentai x Family," a sister program of FBS Fukuoka Broadcasting's "Mentai Wide"!

Osaka Madras (Kusagae, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City) is a branch of a long-established curry restaurant in Osaka.
Located a 5-minute walk from Ropponmatsu Station on the Fukuoka City Subway, "Osaka Madras" is a curry restaurant that opened 11 years ago as a spin-off of the long-established Osaka curry restaurant "Madras."

One bite and you'll be hooked! A sweet and spicy curry rice containing 32 kinds of spices and 4 kinds of fruit.
This time, I ordered the "Madras Curry" (700 yen) with a "Pork Cutlet" (200 yen) topping.

This curry, made with 32 kinds of spices and 4 kinds of fruit, is characterized by its sweet and spicy flavor! The moment you taste it, you feel a fruity sweetness, but after a while, the punchy spiciness kicks in. The rich umami and spicy kick are added to the base of the sweet roux, creating a truly addictive taste.

The roux, which takes three days to simmer, contains a trade secret; the spices and fruits used are all kept completely secret and they won't tell you anything.
However, the shift from sweet to spicy in each bite is said to be a perfectly calculated balance from a neuroscience perspective. There's a good reason why it's so addictive.

There are over 10 types of toppings, but the most popular is this tonkatsu. The light batter is crispy and not overpowered by the thick roux, making a nice accent. The soft yet chewy meat goes well with the curry.
His love for Madras curry is unstoppable; there were even days when he ate it three times a day!
Osaka Madras is the only place in Kyushu where you can enjoy Madras curry. The owner, Kayoko Matsuo, fell in love with the taste and kept visiting the Osaka restaurant until she finally opened her own place, showing just how much she loves Madras curry.

Matsuo originally worked selling food on the Shinkansen bullet train, and was completely captivated by the taste of Madras curry when he encountered it during a stay in Osaka. Apparently, there were times when he ate Madras curry for all three meals in a day! After that, he decided to change careers and begin his apprenticeship, gaining experience in the food and beverage industry at a restaurant in Fukuoka before beginning his apprenticeship at Madras.
Eleven years ago, I was finally granted permission to open my own branch of the restaurant, and I opened a Madras Curry shop in Fukuoka.
Matsuo has been captivated by Madras curry for over 20 years! His "love for Madras" shows no signs of waning.

This enchanting curry continues to captivate everyone who tastes it. You should definitely try it at least once! (Text by Mai Ito)
