Hello. I'm Sho Fujita, a gourmet writer whose heart leaps with excitement just hearing about a new restaurant.

This time, we will introduce the specialty lunch set of a long-established Japanese restaurant that has made a comeback in Tenjin after a hiatus of about four and a half years.

Grand opening on June 10th! "Kappo Yoshida Tenjin Main Branch" (Tenjin, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City) returns to the place where it was founded

Since its establishment in 1963, Kappo Yoshida has been a long-established Japanese restaurant loved by business people in Tenjin for many years for its Japanese cuisine that makes use of seasonal flavors and local seafood.

Due to the redevelopment project "Tenjin Big Bang," the restaurant relocated to the "Hakata Tenyamachi Store," but after about four and a half years, on June 10, 2025, it will grand open "Kappo Yoshida Tenjin Main Store" in Tenjin, where the restaurant was founded.

The Hakatatenyamachi store will also continue to be open, and going forward we will operate as a two-store operation.

The new store's concept is "learn from the past for the new future." The red-colored exterior of the redeveloped building has a different look during the day and at night, which is appealing. Building materials and decorations from the old store can be found throughout the store.

This is a large store with a total of 160 seats, equipped with up to 14 private rooms on the guest room floors from the 1st to the 3rd floors.

On the first floor, there are three booth tables as well as counter seats that are easy for one person to use.

The shoji screens that separate the booth seats are made from wrapping paper from the old store.

From the small window at the counter seats you can see the fish tank in the kitchen, allowing you to relax and enjoy your meal while watching the migrating fish.

On the second floor, there is a large hall that can accommodate up to 60 people, as well as two private rooms with tatami mats.

On the third floor, there are eight types of private rooms that exude a sense of privacy, and decorations from the old store are subtly scattered throughout each room.

With its relaxed atmosphere, it can be used for a variety of occasions, from business to celebrations.

The lunch menu includes the specialty "Taicha" (from 1,760 yen) shown in the photo, as well as the "Taicha Tempura Half Set" (from 2,530 yen) which combines tempura with the dish.

There is a rich lineup to suit all occasions, including the substantial "Lunch Course" (4,070 yen) which includes small dishes and sashimi, and the "Special Lunch Course" (5,500 yen) shown in the photo, which is only available at the Tenjin main store.

In the evening, there are four types of kaiseki cuisine available at different price ranges, including the "Chitose Kaiseki" (8,800 yen), which includes live squid sashimi and mizutaki (chicken hotpot). The "Miyabi Kaiseki" (22,000 yen), shown in the photo, is only available at the Tenjin main store and also includes abalone and Japanese black beef.

Most popular! Try the lunch set of Yoshida's specialty "Taicha" and freshly fried tempura

On this day, I ordered the most popular lunchtime dish, the "Taicha Tempura Half Set" (2,530 yen).

The rich aroma of sesame wafts from the secret sauce of "Taicha."

When you mix it with some sea bream sashimi and put it in your mouth, the umami flavor of the sea bream spreads throughout your mouth, and the refreshing spiciness of the wasabi makes you want to eat more rice.

For the second bowl, I placed the remaining sea bream and sauce on rice and poured plenty of hot tea over it to enjoy as ochazuke.

When the sea bream is heated slightly, its texture changes to a soft, almost melting texture, and it can be enjoyed smoothly along with the elegant aroma of the tea.

The tempura on this day was four types: shrimp, flounder, potato, and green beans.

The shrimp tempura has a light, fragrant batter and the shrimp has a chewy, springy texture that makes it a classic and delicious dish.
The tempura sauce has a deep sweetness accented by the mild spiciness of grated daikon radish, creating a well-balanced flavor.

New release! "Home Cooking Series" lets you enjoy the taste of cooking at home

The souvenir corner on the first floor mainly sells the "Katei Kappo Series" of products for home use, which were released on the opening day of the "Tenjin Main Store."

The "Home Cooking Series" is a range of products and rice accompaniments that will "elevate" your everyday cooking by adapting the refined and deep flavors of traditional cooking for home use.

The products that can be used in cooking are "Taicha Sauce" (729 yen/150ml, 1,242 yen/300ml), which was developed over a long period of time for home use based on the famous "Taicha" sauce; "Tai Dashi Sauce" (1,188 yen), which is packed with the flavor of sea bream bones; and "Nuiti Sauce" (896 yen), which can be used to easily make simmered or teriyaki dishes.

Additionally, the lineup includes rice accompaniments such as "Sea Bream Minced Meat" (1,495 yen), "Sea Bream Soup Tsukudani" (1,296 yen), and "Sea Bream Furikake" (1,080 yen, scheduled for release this fall).

It would also make a great souvenir from Fukuoka.
